Government of Jersey announce two new support offers

On February 27th 2020, the Government of Jersey announced two new support offers (or entitlements) for children in care and those leaving care in Jersey. Details can be found in the accompanying two documents. Much of what is included in the offers of support has previously been provided by our charity.

The Government has kept us informed throughout the process of developing these offers and we are delighted that they are introducing these two important packages of support, which will help to ensure that those in care and those leaving care receive appropriate support.

We recognise that some of the current support we provide to those in care and leaving care will continue to be required, while some support that has been provided by our charity will be superseded by the two new offers from the Government. However, it is too soon to be able to know the full impact of these new initiatives on our work and indeed on our current purpose. We expect to have a much clearer understanding of these changes later in the year when the new initiatives, which we understand will be phased in, are better understood and established.

If you are considering making an application to us for financial support for a child in care or a young person leaving care and aren’t sure whether to do so, please in the first instance, send an email to Allison@brightly.je and briefly outline the situation.

We will be undertaking a significant review of the future direction for the charity and we are currently exploring and evaluating several potential new initiatives, which will address unmet needs in Jersey and enable our long established charity to continue its important work of enhancing childhood and enabling independence.
